A New Look for Regent Street

Regent Street, the bustling but worn corridor between Camp Randall and the Kohl Center, may get a face-lift, more shops, tall buildings and a parking garage.

After nearly a year's effort, a special committee is nearly done with first-ever streetscape and design guidelines for the Regent street corridor and neighborhood to the north, a 160-acre mishmash of small shops, chain stores, houses, offices and surface parking lots.  read more »

A Call To All Good People

Just recently Kipps Down Home Cookin’ located at 1614 Monroe street has been experiencing some vandalism. This favorite eating place for many, appears to have been targeted but they can’t seem to get any attention from our local media. Locally owned and operated by Mike Miller and Forrest (Kipp) Thomas, they were stunned when the first broken window incident occurred. Well, a few weeks and four more incidents later, they are wondering why it is still happening and why no one has bothered to give some them publicity about it.  read more »

Students Get Welcomed, Warned

Members of the Regent Neighborhood Association delivered a two-part message Thursday to UW-Madison students living in the apartments just west of Camp Randall.

In reality, the 13 volunteers and six police officers who broke into groups and made the rounds of Breese Terrace, Lathrop Street, Chadbourne Avenue and other streets were far more tactful -- and sometimes irreverent -- during stops at 90 buildings with some 250 rental units.  read more »

Regent-Monroe Plan Still Stalled

Madison architect Bob Sieger isn't sure what's next for his proposed $12 million retail/condominium project at the corner of Regent and Monroe streets across from Camp Randall Stadium.

"I'm just about ready to throw in the towel," Sieger said after the Madison Plan Commission Monday night delayed action for another 120 days on "Fieldhouse Station."  read more »

This is another large nearby condominium project in the planning stages, with retail and offices planned for its first two floors. It would replace the building on the South corner of Regent and Monroe Street that has recently housed Urban Pizza, a Badger paraphernalia shop, and The Grid. Mickie’s Dairy Bar building and shops to the south would remain. It is located in the Vilas Neighborhood, but adjacent to DMNA and Regent, so all three neighborhoods have been involved in the discussions.  read more »
