Annual MACSAC open house to offer CSA options on Sunday

Madison area farmers will gather on Sunday at Monona Terrace for the 20th annual community supported agriculture (CSA) open house.

The open house, with almost 40 farms present, will take place from 1-4 pm. It will be an opportunity for consumers to mingle with their local food producers and potentially sign up for a 2012 food share.

Community supported agriculture is a business model for farmers where their customers pay for produce before the growing season begins and then receive regularly spaced, often weekly, bundles of freshly harvested food.

During the three hour event, a local chef will discuss how to make the most of your CSA produce, Mayor Paul Soglin will make a speech celebrating Madison's local food culture, and Dane County Executive Joe Parisi will declare 2012 the "Year of CSA."

Madison Area CSA Coalition (MACSAC) organizes the annual event. For more information about the open house, visit their website
