Endorsements logged for the Madison School Board primary

UPDATE: Sarah Manski and TJ Mertz won the Feb. 19 primary. On Feb. 21 Manski withdrew from the race, but her name will remain on the ballot for the April 2 general election

The primary election on Tuesday, Feb. 19 will narrow the Madison School Board race from seven candidates to six.

Only two of the three candidates for Seat 5 -- Sarah Manski, TJ Mertz, and Ananda Mirilli -- will continue to the general election on April 2.

“It’s fairly unusual to have primaries,” said Steve Hartley, chief of staff to the superintendent.

In Tuesday’s election, residents throughout the city may vote, Hartley said.

In the race for Seat 4, Greg Packnett is challenging incumbent School Board President James Howard while Dean Loumos and Wayne Strong are running for Seat 3. The general election on April 2 will determine which candidate in each race will gain a seat on the school board.

The major endorsements thus far include Madison Mayor Paul Soglin, Progressive Dane. and Madison Teachers, Inc. Many have endorsed multiple candidates:
