Madison Media Digest

If you only read one local news story this week, it should be this piece about the company that makes many of Madison’s favorite food carts.

Economy

Madison property values are higher than ever, thanks to a number of factors. An Alliant Energy power plant that serves Madison customers will likely be out of service until July. A recently opened coworking space aims to give writers an alternative to coffee shops. A new limit on tax credits for historic properties could impact renovations to buildings on State Street and elsewhere.

Education

Local elementary students will create outdoor sculptures to line the Yahara River. A local middle school’s Top Chef-inspired competition gets kids excited about sustainability and locally-sourced ingredients. A mentorship organization is helping Black kids in elementary, middle and high school focus on their futures

Community

A West side grocery store is partnering with a local health care provider to reward healthy shopping. Industrial pollutants have contaminated an East side rain garden and bike path. Participants say that the Madison March for Science will be a celebration, not a protest. The annual WORT block party will in part be a tribute to recently deceased local drummer. An art exhibit at the Social Justice Center explores the realities of life as a homeless person. MPD will soon have a pair of drones.
