Local Government

Mayor Soglin is considering running for governor. Soglin will create a committee to study Madison’s government structure. Common Council members want to contract with nonprofits to provide support for families affected by gun violence. The mayor and city council can’t agree on how to best address the issue of gun violence in Madison.Soglin wants to let MPD seek funding for more officers. The city council might reimburse people who bring successful claims before the Police and Fire Commission.

The city is weighing options for bicycle routes around the Judge Doyle Square, and it might fund a public art program in hopes of drawing in potential residents. 

Community

An early childhood zone on the Northside will give kids and parents opportunities to learn and grow. Pinney Library has begun the long process of finding a new home. There are very few hip-hop venues in Madison despite its cultural significance. A new Frank Lloyd Wright exhibit at the Children’s Museum will help kids learn the importance of experimenting.

A group of MGE shareholders wants the company to switch to electric vehicles. The Latino Academy of Workforce Development won this month’s “Game Changer Grant.” The Angel’s Joy learning center hosted a cultural melting pot potluck. A Milwaukee-based immigrant advocacy group hopes to open a Madison branch. Centro Hispano will expand their farmer’s market presence. A pair of locals want to turn the former governor’s mansion into a bed & breakfast.
