Madison Metropolitan School District named to Advanced Placement Honor Roll
The nonprofit College Board named Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) as one of 367 districts on its 2ndAnnual Advanced Placement (AP) Honor Roll. The list was published earlier this month.
Only school districts that simultaneously increased AP course enrollment and AP test scores are on the honor roll. MMSD’s Executive Director for Curriculum and Assessment, Lisa Wachtel, said that the award recognizes execution of the district’s strategic plan.
“About three years ago we rewrote the strategic plan,” Wachtel said. “We decided to improve and increase the options for advanced courses, increase the rigor and expectation that students will all do well, and increase the completion of courses to make students college-career-ready.”
Enrollment in AP courses increased 19 percent since MMSD implemented the new strategic plan. Students that would not traditionally have enrolled in advanced courses are taking them and doing well, Wachtel said.
MMSD is one of 20 school districts in Wisconsin on this year’s AP Honor Roll. Wisconsin ranks seventh in the country for number of school districts receiving the accolade.
