November's Backyard Heroes



Community Shares, a partner of Madison Commons, recognizes two volunteers each month. The volunteers come from Community Shares' member groups and are selected for their service to the community and to community issues.

 

 

Lauren Manier, Wisconsin Democracy Campaign

Lauren Manier began interning at the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign her freshman year at University of Wisconsin–Madison where she maintains a 4.0 GPA. In addition to her internship, she is also involved with student government and other activities. She is especially admired for the focus, judgement and maturity she brings to her work in support of the Democracy Campaign’s mission.

Faye Schouten, Wisconsin Coalition Against Sexual Assault

A retiring police officer with 31 years of service, Faye Schouten has dedicated much of her career to improving how law enforcement and the community respond to sexual assault. As part of this commitment she has served on the Wisconsin Coalition Against Sexual Assault (WCASA) Board of Director’s for eight years and is currently the board president.
