Preview: Healthy neighborhoods focus of Mayor’s Roundtable
The theme of the 2015 Mayor’s Neighborhood Roundtable scheduled for Saturday, October 24 at the Warner Park Community Recreation Center is, “Strong Leaders, Healthy Neighborhoods.”
The event is an opportunity for community members, neighborhood organizations and local businesses to meet and share ideas for how to make Madison neighborhoods great places to live and work as well as teach and learn from each other. Specific focus will be given to strategies for engaging, involving and recruiting others to get involved with their communities.
Jule Stroick, a city planner, said the city's vision of a healthy neighborhood is one where planned activities welcome all residents, caring relationship exist among neighbors and public spaces like parks make residents want to stay and flourish.
Mayor Paul Soglin and Natalie Erdman of the Department of Planning and Community and Economic Development will kick off the event at 9 a.m. and begin with a large group Q&A. Attendees will then break out into groups for table topic discussions covering specific topics including neighborhood safety, communication strategies and how to work with elected officials. Alders, neighborhood organization representatives and other community leaders will facilitate group discussions. Spanish speakers are encouraged to attend.
The event has a capacity of 200 attendees and over 160 people have already registered. For more information or to register online, click here.
