REAP to host bike ride promoting local food

REAP Food Group's Cycle the Sun event, a bike ride celebrating local producers and restaurants in Sun Prairie, will take place on Sunday, June 30.

As one of REAP’s Local Harvest events that occur throughout the year, it will feature Buy Fresh Buy Local restaurants, which team up with local farmers to create a unique, one-of-a-kind experience.

The 18-mile bike ride will feature restaurant partners Beans ‘n Cream Coffeehouse and Salvatore’s Tomato Pies, and will also feature local producers Sassy Cow Creamery and JenEhr Family Farm.

The ride will start at 9:30 a.m. at Beans ‘n Cream, in downtown Sun Prairie (345 Cannery Square), and the ride will continue northeast to JenEhr Family Farm.  This stop includes a tour of the farm, and the opportunity to pick some organic strawberries.

From there participants will head to Sassy Cow Creamery, where they will get a tour of the facilities.  Beans ‘n Cream and Salvatore’s Tomato Pies  will provide a locally sourced lunch. .

After lunch, the riders will head back downtown to the last stop at Salvatore’s Tomato Pies (500 W. Main St.) to have mini-slices of pizza and craft beer, provided by Buy Fresh Buy Local partner Hydro Street Brewery of Columbus.

A portion of the proceeds from this event will be donated to REAP’s Buy Fresh Buy Local program, connecting chefs, farmers, and diners to create a more healthful, just, and sustainable food system in Southern Wisconsin.

The cost of this event is $35 for adults and $15 for children under 12. Online registration has closed, but you can sign up at the event. For more information about REAP visit www.reapfoodgroup.org
