Thanksgiving for all at the Boys and Girls Club

The Boys and Girls Club of Dane County will host a holiday event from 11 am- 3pm on Thanksgiving day at its Allied location, on 4619 Jenewein Road

To ensure that all families are able to enjoy a warm, fresh-cooked meal this Thanksgiving, the Boys and Girls Club of Dane County will host a holiday meal from 11 am- 3pm on Thanksgiving day. Administrators at the club, along with 100 volunteers, will serve over 100 families at the Club’s Allied location, on 4619 Jenewein Road.

The meal will include turkey, sweet potatoes, macaroni and cheese, greens and a variety of desserts.

But the Club is not only serving up a hot meal this Thanksgiving--it is also planning  a host of other fun activities for its guests.

“We are looking to feed people, take family photos, and people will get to listen to music and watch the Packers' game,” said Michael Johnson, CEO of the Boys and Girls Club of Dane County.

The Club, in partnership with UMOJA Magazine, the Allied Dunns-Marsh Neighborhood Association, Metcalfe's Market, Fresh Madison Market and 93.1 Jamz, will host performances by local children and a professional photographer, who will take pictures for at least 50 families that might not otherwise be able to afford a family portrait. There will also be game day munchies galore for those interested in watching the Green Bay Packers take on the Detroit Lions in their Thanksgiving day football game.

The anticipated cost of the event is $5,000, and the Club is looking for donations.

“We need funds to rent tables and chairs and additional funds for food,” Johnson said .

The event is also looking for volunteers, who, according to Johnson, are absolutely critical to run the event successfully.

If you are interested in donating or volunteering for this event, Johnson urges you to stop by the Club, or contact Jacquesha McFarlane at 608-228-5237 or jmcfarlane@bgcdc.org.
