Among MMSD high school graduates, one finds her counternarrative

The academic achievement gap in Madison is shocking, but just being aware of the numbers does not fix the problem.

Madison Memorial High School senior Shaikobie McGee provides a counternarrative. Education Editor Melissa Behling shares the story of McGee, who has defied the odds and charted her own path to success despite systemic barriers, in her documentary "Changing the Narrative."

Graduating from Madison Memorial High School next weekend, McGee changed her story with the help of an influential teacher and encouragement from Black Student Union.
