A firm that designs custom heavy-duty computers is planning a move to Madison. A new niche grocery store on the West Side will focus on providing fresh, local, healthy food. The East Towne Mall will undergo a significant renovation project. After their first rejection, the owners of the Hail Mary sports bar are going to try again for an alcohol license. MATC has chosen a firm for the redevelopment of their downtown campus.

City government

The city council members have been sworn in (Arvina Martin was the only newcomer); and there are now a record number of women on the council. MPD wants to trade their new military vehicle for something smaller. The Madison engineering division is narrowing down traffic solutions for the John Nolen corridor. The Madison School Board will begin budget deliberations. Plans for a parking garage on the near East side have been scaled up. 

Community

Madison science enthusiasts marched for awareness and understanding on Earth Day. The made-in-Madison Oscar Meyer Weinermobile was donated to the Wisconsin Historical Society. A network of Black professionals aims to build a long-term community in Madison. Madison’s YWCA will honor six local women with leadership awards. UNIDOS launched a website for local victims of sexual assault, domestic violence and human trafficking, which has resources in both English and Spanish.
