Local Government

The Pinney Library will be getting a new home thanks to city financing for the Royster Corners redevelopment. The City Council approved funding for violence prevention and emergency support. Affordable housing projects in Madison received renewed funding from Dane County. Madison in Motion plan will address transportation issues in the city. Dane County is working on plans for renovating the Alliant Energy Center. 

Education

The Boys and Girls Club has expanded its summer programming to include a reality show produced by local teens, among other fun things. A new MSD policy will require students to take a financial literacy test before graduating. Students at La Follete High School became the first graduating class to earn the state’s new Seal of Biliteracy. The Literacy Network and the Madison Path to Citizenship are both receiving awards. 

Community

The Madison School District is offering free lunches for school-aged children all summer.

Street medicine for Madison’s homeless folks will begin this fall. A boat and kayak rental shop hopes to bring more people to Lake Mendota’s western shores. A proposal for a hotel on the near east side hopes to begin construction next fall. Carts for Community offers people a place to come together, hang out, and enjoy the summer. A Ho-Chunk community center recently opened. Madison and Dane County are hoping to clean up their swimming beaches. FEED Kitchens is hoping to expand into a full-fledged culinary arts training program.
