On March 6, the League of Women Voters of Dane County hosted a forum on food desert issues in Dane County.

A food desert is an area where the residents lack both financial and physical access to healthy and affordable food. The forum discussed limitations of Madison’s food system and what local government and businesses are doing to address related problems.

Every Saturday from Jan. 5 thru April 13, Dane County Farmers’ Market hosts breakfast at the Madison Senior Center. Most ingredients in the breakfast are products grown and produced by local vendors and the meal is prepared by a rotating line-up of local chefs and costs about $8.50.

Beginning this spring, Madison’s Capitol square will have a new source of energy, fueled by Alterra Coffee Roasters.

Alterra, a large, independent coffee roaster from the Milwaukee area, looks forward to opening their first Madison location in March, said Ramie Camarena, Alterra’s events and communications manager. It will be located in the Tenney Plaza Building, 110 E Main Street near the Capitol.
