Madison will be transformed into an outdoor concert venue Friday with approximately 270 musical groups performing throughout the city on the longest day of the summer.

Make Music Madison is a “free, public celebration of music all across Madison” on June 21, according to its website.

Michael Rothschild, the Madison resident who spearheaded the event, got the idea from his nephew, who started Make Music New York after witnessing Paris’ summer solstice event.

Dane County’s program for recycling hazardous waste, Clean Sweep, will soon undergo changes that the county says will improve efficiency and customer service. Other changes, such as new fees, have already been in effect since the county opened its new year-round location in May.
