Managing Editor Intern / Alexandra (Alex) Malatesta

Alexandra (Alex) is a senior at UW–Madison studying journalism and digital media analytics, with a passion for strategic communications, brand strategy and storytelling. Originally from La Jolla, California, she’s gained experience across campus media projects, nonprofit storytelling and national politics through her work with the Democratic National Committee. She’s also has contributed to Meld, an AI mentorship platform for women, and continues to build her personal interests at the intersection of media, campaign work, and overall community impact. Outside of school and work, Alex balances her love of yoga, traveling the world and creativity with her long-term goal of moving to New York City and pursuing a career where she is making a difference

Legal Affairs Reporting Intern / Maddie Green

Maddie is a senior studying journalism and political science with a certificate in criminal justice. She has experience in nonprofit advocacy through the Borgen Project and community-focused work at the Goodman Community Center. Madeline is a UniverCity Alliance Scholar and a student in the Tribal Court of Appeals Project, where she is exploring the intersections of journalism, government and law. She is passionate about the legal system and is excited to report on stories that amplify community voices.

Reporting Intern / Dauntae Green

Dauntae is a first-year student in the professional master's graduate program. He has experience in the newspaper world when he worked at campus newspaper Royal Purple at University of Wisconsin–Whitewater in his undergraduate years. When he isn’t working, he is usually going to see new movies at the movie theaters, writing reviews for fun, playing Dungeons & Dragons with friends, and enjoying life. Dauntae is excited to write stories for Madison Commons and hopes to be able to share stories of the unique community of Madison and make a difference.

Reporting Intern / Kat Hans

Kat is a first-year graduate student in the professional master's graduate program. She graduated from Marquette University, where she majored in writing intensive English and minored in advertising. Kat loves reading literary fiction and creative nonfiction, as well as exploring independent bookstores and live music in Madison. She is excited to create stories for Madison Commons and make personal connections with community members in Dane County.

Production Intern/ Matt Gatland

Matt is a senior in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication studying strategic communication, with certificates in data science and digital media analytics. He has a background in marketing and communications, interning this past summer with P33 Chicago, a nonprofit organization connecting businesses with the Chicago tech sphere. Outside of the academic and career world, Matt is passionate about music and environmental justice and can be seen hosting a radio show on WSUM, mountain biking, snowboarding and hiking.
