The Madison Mallards’ hopes of a late comeback were crushed in a bitter 5-4 defeat Friday night at Warner Park, resulting in a two-game series split against the Kalamazoo Growlers.
“Man, you never want to lose a ball game like that,” Mallards pitching coach Leon Davidson said after his team’s three-game winning streak was snapped.
Bullpen depth and clutch hitting spurred the Madison Mallards to a 5-4 victory against the Kalamazoo Growlers on Thursday night at Warner Park.
Mallards center fielder J.T. Benson said his squad was able to rally because of their group-first mindset.
“We are a great team right now,” Benson said. “We’re very…built around each other…and not for ourselves.”
Wildly uneven pitching forced a series split in the Madison Mallards’ doubleheader against the Lakeshore Chinooks Wednesday at Warner Park. The Mallards followed up a 4-0 triumph with an 11-5 loss.

“It was satisfying,” the Madison Mallards center fielder said of a 7-6 walkoff win that snapped the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters’ five-game winning streak over his club. “We knew coming in that this team had our number.”
Madison’s starting pitcher Eliot Turnquist said that a hostility has existed between the two teams.
“We’re rivals with these guys,” Turnquist said. “There’s been bad blood between us in the past.”
