The public is invited to hear a presentation about the results of research into Madison schools’ 4K early learning program. Madison teachers marched Friday from East High School to the Capitol to ask for the state to do more to prevent gun violence in schools. John Muir Elementary was put on lockdown after a suspect being chased by police walked into the school’s gym.

Groups are looking to provide more housing services for female veterans, including a project on East Washington. Common Wealth was awarded a grant to preserve neighborhoods in Madison. Madison’s tight housing market means homes are often sold their first day of their listing and buyers are going to extraordinary lengths to get their dream home. The city has recommended the permits to proceed with the Madison Yards development.

Sabrina Madison, founder of the Progress Center for Black Women, was named one of Essence Magazine’s “Woke 100 Women.” Groups across Madison celebrated Earth Day this past weekend, but the Henry Vilas Zoo’s Party for the Planet likely involved the most animals. A program to get those with opioid addictions into recovery instead of into jail has graduated its first class.
